The Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, is the home of the St. Louis Cardinals, the city’s Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. The stadium has a seating capacity of 43,975, and contains 3,706 club seats and 61 suites. It replaced Busch Memorial Stadium and occupies a portion of that site.
History
The stadium opened on April 10, 2006 with a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals won that game by a score of 6-4. The first official sellout at the new Busch Stadium occurred on April 12, 2006 as the Cardinals hosted the Chicago Cubs for Opening Night.
The stadium has seen some memorable moments since its opening. In 2006, Albert Pujols hit three home runs on Opening Night. On May 5, 2009, Chris Carpenter pitched a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays. And on October 27, 2011, David Freese hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning of Game 6 of the World Series to force a Game 7.
Busch Stadium has also hosted a number of other events, including concerts by the likes of U2, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, and Garth Brooks. It also played host to the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Today, Busch Stadium is widely considered to be one of the finest baseball stadiums in the country.
