Saint Louis Art Museum

The Saint Louis Art Museum in Missouri is one of the leading art museums in the United States. It houses a collection of over 30,000 works of art that span 5,000 years of history and cultures from every corner of the globe.

The museum first opened its doors to the public in 1879 in a building on Olive Street in downtown Saint Louis. In 1904, the museum moved to its current location in Forest Park, where it occupies a beautiful Beaux-Arts building designed by architect Cass Gilbert.

The Saint Louis Art Museum has undergone several expansions and renovations over the years, most notably in 2013 when it added a new wing designed by David Chipperfield.

The museum’s collection is divided into several different sections, each with its own focus. The Ancient World collection features art from Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Near East. The Asian art collection includes works from China, Japan, Korea, India, and Southeast Asia.

The European collection contains paintings by masters such as Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, and Picasso, as well as a wide variety of sculptures, furniture, and other decorative arts.

The Saint Louis Art Museum also has an extensive collection of American art, which includes paintings by John Singleton Copley, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Andrew Wyeth.

In addition to its world-class art collection, the Saint Louis Art Museum also offers a variety of amenities for visitors. The museum has a café and a gift shop, and it also offers tours, educational programs, and special exhibitions throughout the year.
